With 3 teammates, we designed and created a robotic arm that presses arcade buttons. Relying on 4-bar linkage, the arm was designed to move to the position of an arbitrary pair of buttons (with the single green button as a bonus) and press them as fast as possible, while also occupying the smallest possible space. To achieve this goal, we first synthesized the linkage using graphical methods on a 2D model of the playing field and completed the CAD model of the mechanism. We then machined each part using aluminum plates and ordered actuators, sensors, and the controller—under limited budget. Implemented PID control in Arduino, the mechanism successfully functioned with excellent performance.
